Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound is working to impact the growing rate of obesity by increasing physical activity through a creative and fun approach to physical fitness: dog walking. Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound is also working to address the plight of homeless animals and increase their adoptability through provision of exercise and socialization as well as increase community awareness of the issues related to animal welfare.

Our Next Event

WALK A HOUND, LOSE A POUND will return next spring, we promise!

We apologize for all the confusion this fall. There were many changes taking place in the animal welfare community, especially at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control.  We hope that in the next few months, our community leaders will find a way to address the problems of our stray and homeless animals so that programs such as Walk a Hound can once again find a presence in the community.  We hope to see you soon!

Walk a Hound Walks On!

Greetings to all our loyal fans as well as our new visitors!  Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound has gone through several changes since we last saw you at Ellenberger Park in 2007.  We have now incorporated and officially gained our status as a 501C3 (not for profit).  As many of you may know, there have been many changes taking place locally in the animal welfare arena over the last year and we chose to take a break while some of these issues initally were addressed.

As we prepare for this upcoming season, we are excited that we will be working with several other local shelters and foster groups in addition to Indianapolis Animal care and Control.  We will also be sponsoring other dog walking programs in addition to our Walk in the Park Events. These include on-site walking programs at a couple of our local shelters as well as walking shelter dogs on the Monon Trail and Indianapolis Greenway and Canal.

As always, as we begin our new ventures we are looking for some dedicated volunteers to help us get up and running.  For more information on how you can help, click here

Please stay tuned for our event schedule.  We look forward to seeing you this summer!
