Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound™ is working to impact the growing rate of obesity by increasing physical activity through a creative and fun approach to physical fitness: dog walking. Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound™ is also working to address the plight of homeless animals and increase their adoptability through provision of exercise and socialization as well as increase community awareness of the issues related to animal welfare.

HABITAT for DOGMANITY II Feb. 10th, 2008

What could be a better way to start out 2008?!

FIDO (www.fidoindy.org) is committed to helping dogs who have a home, but spend their lives outside, frequently confined to a chain. FIDO provides all kinds of support, including food, access to preventive medical care, fencing and shelter in some of the poorest areas of Indianapolis. One of the greatest needs of FIDO is a ready supply of sturdy doghouses.  During our first event, we were able to build 10 houses but the need for these houses is far greater than that. Photos of our first event are here.

The supply of dog houses is dwindling quickly so we will get together again on Sunday, February 10, 2008 for our next build day.  This time we will be working inside the parking bay at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control to build more houses, so save the date!  Ways you can help:

•    Come build a dog house; bring your family and friends*!
•    Donate supplies or give a financial contribution for additional doghouses.  A detailed list of building supplies and wood is available on request.
•    Donate snacks and drinks for the volunteer workers.

Details to be posted in January 2008!

FIDO is in need of dedicated volunteers to participate in their neighborhood outreach as well as daily operations to keep up with the needs of these dogs who spend their days and nights outside.  For information on how you can further help FIDO, contact volunteer coordinator Heather Roemer at 317-402-1525

* Children over the age of 14 are welcome but must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
